Living in a Broken Body
The Body maybe Broken,
but the Mind is not!
My life is my own, and honestly, I’m pretty proud of that!
I was born with a physical disability called Arthrogryposis, at the time very little was known about this condition and the professionals were learning as they went. For me, my body truly is broken; I can't use my arms nor my legs, I access my computer using a stick I hold in my mouth. For everything else I need an electric wheelchair and complete physical assistance.
Every step of my life has been a battle, firstly won by my parents, and then as I became an adult they were each fought and won by me! Despite this though, I've had, and continue to have, a full and rich life. School, collage, work, traveling, relationships, and all the normal stuff that everyone should experience. So, as I sit here in my lovely little council bungalow with my beautiful rescue dog snoring beside me, I’m hit by how truly lucky I am.
Please join me on my journey as I face the present, plan for the future and look back on my past. They'll also be hints and tips on completing paperwork for local authorities, applying for CHC, and ensuring that however broken your body is, your mind is not hindered from controlling of life.
